Aluminum, Propylene Glycol, Phthalates, Parabens.

Just a few of the common toxins found in common deodorants. In case you don’t know why you should avoid these, or need a little refresher:

Aluminum: linked to breast and prostate cancer, and increased risk of Alzheimer’s.

Propylene Glycol: damages central nervous system, liver, and heart.

Phthalates: increased risk for cell mutation, birth defects, and hormonal problems.

Parabens: organ toxicity, birth defects, and disrupts hormones causing early puberty and increased risk of hormonal cancers.

And those are just a few.

Your skin absorbs toxins within seconds, and the harm those can cause are really overwhelming. There are some great natural deodorants out there, but for me it’s something I like to make. I have tried several natural brands, some are better than others and you just have to find what works for you.

This is a really simple recipe and only takes a few minutes to whip up. Plus, it lasts a really long time! That all makes it worth it for me to make myself. I love that I have control over the ingredients, and can adjust it where and when needed. This way I get to choose my own scent (or no scent!) too, which I love!

DIY Toxin-free deodorant

Why these ingredients?

Baking Soda is great for odor and sweat control.

Coconut Oil is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

Arrowroot Powder is great for absorbing moisture.

Bentonite Clay is detoxifying and moisture absorbing.

Tea Tree Oil is a strong anti-bacterial.

I hope you guys love this recipe as much as I do. It is completely natural, organic (I use and recommend using organic ingredients!) and free of any potential toxins. It really works so great, and one batch lasts a long time. I store mine in a wide mouth mason jar and use a few dabs from my finger to apply. It rubs on smooth and easy!

Disneyland Tips

Good morning! As many of you know, we recently went to Disneyland. I first have to say that we live completely clean, natural, organic, green, anything else you want to call it. But I definitely think there are times we need to let all the obsessing go, and just enjoy life as it is. Avoiding EVERYTHING can be really hard at times (like on vacation…) because there are unhealthy things e v e r y w h e r e.

So that is what we did, for one week, we weren’t concerned about all the horrible things that may or may not be lurking, because it would have been exhausting and taken away from the experience we wanted our kids to be able to have. I wish everything was 100% organic and clean, but it’s not.

1.bring your own snacks and food into the park

2.bring your own water!

3.if you do eat out, and avoid certain foods by choice (or allergy!) the hostess asks before you are even seated, and they bring you an allergy menu. Every place has great alternatives and a TON of vegetarian/vegan choices. They are very thorough about this, so you know you can trust it!

4.let yourself off the hook of being totally organic for a minute. I know how hard that is and trust me I cringed getting our kids some of the things we did, but it was ONE time. And it wasn’t TOO overboard, either. They ate churros, and some cookies, etc. There are some decent options there that I was really okay with, for one time. 😉

5. be sure you bring your own organic sunscreen, because you won’t find any there! We were so happy to have our Raw Elements Sunscreen that works really well, too!

6.for all my fellow booch lovers out there, glass bottles are not allowed in the park, so you better drink it up before you get there… or they will have you pour it into another cup before you go in.

1.again, bring your own food and water.

2. pack a bag full of dress-up clothes and items and let your kids wear those each day instead of buying ALL the ones they have out. I recommend The Little Dress Up Shop for a great price and quality. souvenirs from amazon before you go to the parks

4. when you do purchase stuff in the park, be sure you bring them with you the following days! Also, you can check your bags of purchases all over, so you don’t have to carry them around or worry about them being stolen.

5. use the Disneyland app for a map, wait times, character spotting, etc. This is your total guide!

6. there are great live shows and things like that on both sides of the park (Fantasy Faire for princess storytelling shows (DL), Enchanted Tiki Room (DL), Turtle Talk with Crush (CA), Frozen Show (CA),  and Disney Junior Live Show (CA), etc.) these are GREAT for a break. Our two toddlers loved all these shows, and they were so great for a little rest for them.

There are so many tips and guides out there that it can be really overwhelming. I wanted to keep this as short and simple as possible, because that’s how I like it! 🙂 Another thing I wanted to share was about our hotel situation.

We booked through Get Away Today by recommendation from everyone, working with them was great. However, the hotel they booked us was REALLY horrible. It was so close to the hotel, which was amazing and exactly what we wanted, but the hotel itself was not good at all. After the first night they switched our rooms, and it was honestly no better. The shower barely worked, it was loud, and the building itself was just awful.

I definitely recommend staying FAR AWAY from The Castle Inn and Suites. If you book through Get Away Today, be sure you tell them you DO NOT want that hotel. Refuse it. We actually left a night early to Newport because we were so sick of it. Get Away Today said they could change our hotel that first night, but recommended switching rooms instead, which I really didn’t like. So we did that. They said the other hotel they could change us to was pretty far away, which we then would have had to figure out transportation or parking to get to the parks. It was so frustrating!

We were told that many of the hotels in walking distance from the park (ours was directly across the street) are horrible like that. We did find out that The Marriot hotel there was wonderful, highly recommended, and only a bit further so walking COULD still be an option, or you could get other transportation. I would rather deal with parking than a bad hotel again. We were Disney-newbies, what are you gonna do?!

What is your #1 tip?

Mindful Monday: Purposeful Planner

Mindfulness: being present in every moment, without judgement.

One of my favorite quotes to live by. Over the past year, I have been practicing mindfulness in ways that work for me. Something I have needed for awhile was a good planner to help me stay mindful. I needed something that would ease my anxiety and stress by keeping my thoughts and my life as organized as possible. I tried a few different planners and they never were enough. I tried several bullet journals but they were too much for me to do and I found myself stressing over creating it. Not helpful.

When I found Corie Clark planners, I was really hopeful they would be what I have been needing. When I first got my planner, I was really excited looking through it thinking “this is perfect!” And that it is! I did not realize how helpful it would become though.

The Corie Clark planners are all about living your life on purpose, simply. That sounds just like something I would love! These planners include 18 months chock-full of good stuff to not only keep you organized, but help you remain mindful and stress-free! There are sheets for goals, menu planning, budget, a task list, and daily plan-sheets that have everything you could ever possibly need to track!

These planners have helped me stay on top of menu planning and grocery shopping. They have made it incredibly simple to track my water intake, my to-do lists, even my monthly dreams and goals. It’s so important to keep track of all these things, but without the right way to do it all, it can be stressful to figure out the best way to stay on top of things.

Another thing I love so much about my purposeful planner, is that it goes along with a minimalist lifestyle. This planner truly is my key to staying organized and on top of things.

Self-Care Sunday

You all know how much I love to talk about self-care and self-love, because it is so important and so often forgotten. Self-care can be so simple, yet still have such a huge impact on how you feel each day. Suffering from post partum anxiety and depression has taught me that, and it has deeply been ingrained in me.

I went a really long time not taking care of myself, and always putting myself last. I know this is the case for so many moms, and it really doesn’t work so well. I have learned to work in little things throughout my day and routine to practice self-care that I need. It really is the little things that add up and make a huge impact on us.

One of my favorite self-care steps is exfoliating. It’s so simple, but it makes my skin feel and smell so good and it’s just the little something I need sometimes! I exfoliate 2-3 times a week using Ili Scrub Coffee Scrub. This stuff is made in Hawaii using organic local coffee, organic coconut oil, organic sugar, Hawaiian sea salt, essential oils, and vitamin e. They are pure, and natural which I LOVE, and they smell incredible! I wish I could have you all smell my bags right now, they are so so good. My personal favorite is the coconut cacao coffee scrub. It smells go amazing, and is so great for your skin. Cacao + coconut + exfoliating to me is just brilliant because they all have such great benefits.

Cacao protects against free radicals, is full of magnesium, omega fatty acids, and vitamin c to promote cell repair and blood flow. Coconut is high in protein, super moisturizing, and has anti-inflammatory properties. Exfoliation removes old skin cells, revealing the glowy, newer skin underneath. It also encouraged cell regeneration, causing your cells to turn over quicker.

I love exfoliating in the shower, and when I exfoliate my face, I like to use a mask after because I know my skin is going to absorb it so much better!

Cheers to self-care, the little things, and a Sunday well-spent.

Well, It’s Thursday, but who says that means I can’t share a #mindfulmonday post? Ha! Things have been really hectic in my life lately, and it’s definitely showing here. I appreciate that you are all still here though, and still supporting me. Although I don’t always have enough time to blog, I really enjoy it and love that I get to share it with all of you!

Today I wanted to share a little bit about the solar plexus chakra, also known as Manipura.

Bars have kind of become their own food group and in our house they’re a necessity. Toddlers love bars and they’re such a great snack to have on hand. I’ve been making these homemade ones and we are all drooling over them, so I wanted to share!
They’re so easy and so full of yummy super-food ingredients. They taste more like a cookie than a granola bar, honestly! But they have no sugar OR gluten!

Here’s the recipe:

1 jar Justin’s creamy peanut butter

2 cups gluten free oats

1/2 cup cacao nibs

2/3 cup raw local honey

1 teaspoon Madagascar vanilla

1 teaspoon maca powder

Optional: 1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix all together in a large bowl, press into a baking dish (depending on how thick you want them!)

Freeze for 2 hours and devour 🤤
*this is a sponsored post, however I would never share or recommend anything I didn’t love or use myself.

15 oz. Hope Foods spicy avocado hummus

2 c. dry Ancient Grains gluten free pasta or whatever your favorite pasta is

1 large bunch kale

your favorite vegan super food patties

Cook pasta as according to package. Chop the kale, and sautee with evoo, s+p, fresh garlic.  I broil the super food vegan patties we like on 350 until browned and lightly crispy on the outside! When the pasta is cooked and drained, add in the hummus and kale. Top with the vegan patty.

That’s all! This dinner is easy, fast, and crazy nutritious! I love that we can use Hope Foods Hummus for so many great things. It’s such a delicious, creamy, vegan pasta sauce. The spicy avocado flavor is just a little spicy, and full of flavor. I love that I don’t even have to add any more spices to it! Hope Foods caries a large variety of flavors that you can use in so many ways, and they make great sauces all on their own.

We love hummus, in fact Calum could very well live off the stuff! You can find more hummus recipes and inspiration here!

Moving up into the next chakra: svadhishthana, also known as sacral chakra. Let’s dive right in!

Location: 2″ below belly button

Chakra meaning: The sacral chakra is all about emotions, sexuality, and creativity.

Off balance: Jealousy, guilt, possessive behavior, body shame, depression.

Color: Orange

Affirmations: I acknowledge my uniqueness. I am a creative being. I attract only nurturing relationships. My senses are alive, and well connected. I embrace my life with passion and joy. I am a radiant, strong, beautiful, and healthy being.

*tip: I think that saying these affirmations in the mirror is extremely powerful! Give it a try both ways so you can see (and feel!) the difference.

Aromatherapy: Orange, bergamot, clary sage, geranium, jasmine, rosewood. Best used in a bath or shower, as sacral chakra is associated with water!

Foods: Almonds, oranges, pumpkin, mangoes, coconut, melon, papaya.

Nature Element: Water, being in or by water. A bath works great! Sometimes even increasing your water intake is very helpful.

Yoga Sequence to Clear Sacral Chakra

Good morning babes! I hope everyone had a great weekend and a good start to the week. We are so busy over here, packing and preparing for a big move and vacation in a couple weeks. Stress-free prayers and vibes sent our way are appreciated! 🙂

Over the last 9 months or so I have become incredibly passionate on skin care. I have researched it all, and tried a ton of different, natural skin care products. When my postpartum anxiety and depression struck, it wrecked my skin as well. The stress just took a worse toll on my skin than I ever have dealt with or could have imagined. It it still a problem, but I have finally found the routine that works great for me and my skin type (sensitive) and I am so excited to share it with you guys.

Each morning after my workout, I massage my face with the cocokind facial oil, wipe away with a luke warm damp pull cloth.

Then I soak a cotton ball in witch hazel toner, and gently rub it all over my face. This helps to clean my pores a little deeper, removing all excess makeup, dirt, etc. after cleansing. I love the toner I use, which is great for my sensitive skin and clears up my breakouts amazingly. I have also heard incredible things about this one.

After using my toner, I apply chia facial oil. I put a small amount in my palms, rub together, and gently press it into my skin.

I don’t wear makeup often, but when I do I allow about 5 minutes for the oil to absorb before putting anything else on! I will brush my teeth and braid my hair while waiting.

I follow the same first and second steps here as I do in the morning with my facial oil cleanser and toner.

After this, I skip the chia oil and use matcha face moisturizer instead. A litte goes a long way, and I also use this around my eyes. Pressing and patting it in deeply all over is favorite way to apply.

I am in love with this turmeric spot treatment right now. After cleansing and before toner, I will apply this to any troublesome spots. It says to apply for 20 minutes, but much like the creator of Cocokind Skincare, I usually leave it on much longer than that! I remove this with my toner, then follow my normal routine.

As needed, usually a few times a week as well, I use my Konjac sponge to exfoliate. It is so gentle, and works great!

I use to do this more often, but my skin is too sensitive for that, and I need a little longer between than the average person. I use this razor to shave my entire face. Yeah, you read that right. It’s called dermaplaning and it is a deep exfoliation like nothing else. Just be sure you know what you are doing and go gently!

OR I use my PMD which is a personal microdermabrasion tool that I am in love with. It is also a deep exfoliation, so I will usually rotate using one or the other because my skin is too sensitive to use both in one time!

After either treatment, I immediately use my favorite mask of all time. The bentonite clay mask. I mix mine with filtered water and leave on for 5-10 minutes. I use my Konjac sponge and luke warm water to wash it off.

Then I use the matcha moisturizer after and I have also been using the facial repair serum on occasion after these treatments as well.

You can and should read more about what each product does for your skin type on cocokind’s website! This will help you figure out what will be the best for you. I truly believe in and love these products and this brand. I swear by it.There are some products they carry I am really looking forward to trying out as well, because I am in love with what I am using currently!

Another favorite is this lip blam which is organic and non-gmo. I have 3 kinds open currently. So that shows you my obsession level there.

There is so much more that I could get into with natural skin care, so I will save that for another post. I just really wanted to share my current routine and favorite products with you guys.

I also need to note that this is NOT a sponsored post. These brand don’t even know that I wrote about them.

I use pull cloths from livecrude facial oil brand. I used to use their everything oil, which I would still recommend but it didn’t work the best for me. I know it’s amazing for others though. I gave it a few months before deciding to try cocokind. I was immediately impressed and it’s working so well for me!

I would love to hear your thoughts on skincare and what products you love and swear by as well! Share them here or over on Instagram page 🙂

Thanks so much for reading
