DIY: ALL PURPOSE (ALL NATURAL) CLEANER

Walking through the cleaning isle, reading all those ingredients. Toxins, chemicals, things you don’t even know how to pronounce. Cleaning products are so rarely “clean” themselves, leaving us all wondering: “what in the hell am I putting on my counter top?”

If you have ever been there, I have a solution for you. While there are many natural cleaning solution products (this one is what I would recommend for store-bought), making your own all-purpose cleaner is not only more affordable, but also you know exactly what is in it, and can customize the scent.

There are a few different ways to make your own cleaner, but this is my personal favorite, because it is really simple and really fast to throw together when you have procrastinated making a new batch. I don’t love to set aside a lot of time for making my own products,so the easier the better. I also really believe that less is more, and this recipe uses only 4 simple ingredients you might even have on hand already!

Recipe:

-1/2 c. apple cider vinegar

-2 T. castile soap

-10 drops essential oil (of your choice, I like to go with things that are naturally disinfecting: tea tree, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, etc.)

-1/2 c. water

Instructions:

Add all items into a spray bottle using a funnel (pro tip: use an old ACV bottle to be plastic free, and really sustainable! A standard spray bottle top will fit on it. You can also re-use a bottle from old cleaner, etc.).

Gently shake the bottle (after putting the lid on) to mix everything together.

Use to clean your kitchen, floors, bathroom, windows, door nobs, car, kid’s toys, literally anything! I find that this cleaner works really well for disinfecting, and I use it daily for regular clean-up in the house, but when I am needing to deep clean the shower/tubs/toilets, I use something a little more powerful.

Have you made the swap to safer and “greener” cleaning products?

100% PURE MAKEUP LOOK

Good morning babes! And happy Thursday! It’s almost the weekend, and I want to talk about a few green beauty products that I am loving for those times I want to wear makeup, but don’t want to spend more than 5 minutes doing it (hey, mama’s!). I know I am not the only one!!

I rarely, r a r e l y, wear any makeup, but there are times I want to! I love makeup but have been working the last few months on being confident without it and not feeling like I “need” it. After several months without makeup, I can’t remember the last time I felt like I had to have makeup on.

Which is so incredible, but it’s also okay that sometimes it’s fun and I want to put it on! I’ve been playing around with 100% Pure fruit pigmented makeup, and I have been really impressed. I have been trying their Healthy Skin Foundation. First of all, the color matches my skin tone better than anything I have ever tried (thus far). I was immediately impressed by that.

I also really love the consistency of the liquid. It’s really creamy and dense and I feel like a little goes a long way! It’s such a smooth foundation of really high quality. Something you can tell the moment it touches your skin.

It lasts ALL. DAY. seriously. It really does! I used this brush to blend the foundation in and topped it off with some organic dry shampoo as a finish. It lasted all day without a smudge anywhere. I wore this while playing outside with my kids all day and they were getting in a small pool/playing in water. My face was splashed several times but the makeup held up like it was nothing. This was definitely unexpected and pretty amazing. (side note: this stiff already has spf 20 which was a huge bonus!)

The coverage is really superb. I have some healing scars on my jaw and they were covered completely with only a small amount of the foundation. It didn’t look (I don’t think so but tell me if I am wrong!) or feel thick or packed on. I actually think that it looked very natural, even with all of the coverage.

I also have been loving their Mermaid palette. The colors are really flattering and look very natural, something I always look for in bronzers, blushes, and shadows. The powders are super blend-able. I love the eye shadow colors! They’re personally my favorite for my green eyes. They definitely make them pop without having a ton of makeup on my lids.

Overall 100% Pure has it down! Amazing products that deliver. I’ve been so impressed by the quality of this makeup, especially considering the clean ingredients. I have rather sensitive skin, and this stuff didn’t break me out, or irritate my skin either. You can buy these directly from the brand’s website, but I recommend buying through The Choosy Chick. The foundation is cheaper from here, and you can find a ton of great organic products you might need as well.

I did also want to mention real quick about The Choosy Chick sale that is going from Friday at midnight until May 30th. Here are some things I want to highlight:

  • All orders of $20 or more will receive a 2 oz. jar of Splurge’s  Lavender Mint Body Scrub (no code necessary!)
  •   HollyBeth Organics just launched a new Blue Purifying Face Mask.  The Choosy Chick will be taking pre-orders (in stock on June 5th!). They are one of the first to stock this as well! All pre-orders will get free shipping in the U.S. use code: HBMASK
  • The Orgaid Sheet Mask Save 15% with code: SAVE15

I would love to hear if you guys have tried out any of these products and what you think?

If you haven’t tried, then you need to! I think they are a really great switch if you are still using toxic makeup brands.

MODERN TWIST

Good morning! I have been loving on a brand lately that I want to share with you guys. I know most of us have heard of Stasher, their sister company Modern Twist has some of the cutest products for kids!

The first one is the tiny tote which has been so perfect for snacks at home, and on the go. My kids love it so much. I love that it’s re-usable, completely toxic-free, and easy to clean. This bag zips closed really easily, and my toddlers can open it on their own too. I love having a great option to put their snacks in when we leave the house!

We have the garden play mark-mat too that we love! It’s such a fun idea, and something my 3 year old has really enjoyed coloring on. Heck, even I love coloring on it! It’s so cute and for some reason coloring on silicone is way more fun than anything else. I love that we can use this as a place mat as well, and that it’s dishwasher safe! It’s amazing! I am looking at getting this one and this one next! They are all so cute.

They also have stuff for younger toddlers and babies, too. We have been using the bucket bib (on backorder in this print but the others are SO cute too!) for out 1 year old and he actually likes it! The silicone makes it a lot more comfortable, and its super easy to clean after (my favorite part!).

Like Stasher, Modern-Twist is out the make the planet plastic-free, which is something we should all be getting behind. I also love that with these high quality, easy to clean products, I don’t need a ton of them to get us through each day.

Have you tried them out yet? If you have, what is your favorite product?

HOW I AM NATURALLY TREATING MY POSTPARTUM ANXIETY

Good morning babes! Hope everyone has had a great week, and that you are ready to take on Friday! I have been getting a TON of emails and DM’s asking about my postpartum anxiety and how I am treating it. I knew I needed to address it all in one post, because there is a lot that goes into this subject, at least for me! I want to mention first of all that I am not a medical professional and everything I do works best for me personally. That might not be the case for you. We are all so different and the biggest thing is to do what works best for you and your family! I have tried so many things before I got to this point where I finally know what works and what does not for me.

I share a little bit of my backstory on postpartum anxiety and depression here. I also shared in this post the things I did when I first noticed that I was suffering from postpartum anxiety. Our baby is now 15 months, and things have changed in how I address these things. Here iI share mindfulns what I am doing now:

  • Ashwaghanda I take two capsules daily, and if I am feeling off or having a hard day, I take more.
  • Maca I add 1-2 t to a latte or smoothie that I have throughout the day.
  • Collagen You can read more about collagen here. I take 1 serving of it daily, usually in a smoothie or oatmeal.
  • I limit my caffeine more than I used to. I will have 1-2 cups of coffee a day, on a good day. On a day I am feeling stressed or off, I will stick with a cup of matcha. Try swiss water method decafmatcha, or Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee.
  • I track my sleep, and stick to a consistent schedule. I use the “bedtime” feature on my iPhone to keep myself on track to go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday. I allow myself time to be up before my kids, too so I have time to start my day with mindfulness, exercise, writing, or whatever it is I need that day.
  • Mindfulness has played a huge role, too. I share mindfulness tips on Mondays, either here or on my Instagram. One of my favorite tools has been my Purposeful Planner. It is my space where I log all my to-do lists, keep my life organized, meal plan, brain storm, all that. It’s really been helpful with my anxiety because it’s an easy way for me to keep track of everything and make sure I am giving myself what I need. I start each morning in my planner and it gives me a great start to the day.

So these are the things I am doing now, at 15 months postpartum, and I am feeling really good! I am also going to be trying out hypnotherapy soon too, and will keep you guys updated there.

Thanks so much for reading,

EASY AND HEALTHY CRUSTED SALMON RECIPE

I love salmon, but I don’t usually like crusted salmon. This is one that I actually do love and it is so easy, so clean, and so frickin good! My kids devoured this, so it is definitely going in our dinner rotation. I hope your family loves it too!

Primizie Crusted Salmon

4 servings of salmon

1 c. Primizie Simply Salted of Italian Herb Crispbreads

1 T. coconut oil

Smoked paprika

Garlic

Salt & Pepper

Place salmon fillets on a baking sheet, dust on paprika, salt, and pepper. In a food processor, add the Primizie Crispbreads, coconut oil, and garlic. After that mixture is a chunky consistency (how chunky or fine you want it processed is up to you!) top the salmon with a thick layer. Bake at 415 degrees for 20 minutes.

Pretty simple, am I right?

Don’t forget to share and tag me on Instagram if you make this recipe! I would love to see and hear how you and your family enjoys it.

10 REASONS TO TAKE COLLAGEN

FullSizeRender (48)FullSizeRender (47)FullSizeRender (46)FullSizeRender (45)FullSizeRender (44)

Good morning friends! I hope this post finds you well, and that you are all enjoying your Sunday. As I am sipping a super-food latte filled with some tasty Vital Proteins collagen, I want to share with you guys my 10 reasons for taking collagen.

First of all, I want to mention that I do not eat much meat. I was a vegetarian for a long time before we started having babies, but now I eat very intuitively. I will make a post about this later, but even though I really like to veer away from any animal products, there are reasons that my body sometimes needs collagen and so I take it. You just need to listen to your body and feed it what it needs, and do what works the best for you!

Okay, here we go!

10 reasons to take collagen:

1. Collagen can help heal your gut. Amino acids found in collagen are proven to heal the lining of the intestine and leaky gut symptoms. A healthy gut is so important, you guys! Your gut is like your second brain, so it’s health is everything.

2. Collagen can improve skin elasticity and moisture. Who doesn’t want that? Many creams have collagen in it to “improve and prevent wrinkles,” but collagen cannot actually be absorbed through the skin! So the best way is to ingest it.

3. Collagen (and gelatin) help to break down other foods, which aids in better digestion. It really does work! One of my biggest reasons I started taking collagen.

4. Amino acids and protein found in collagen helps your hair grow faster, stronger, and healthier. I have personally noticed this too! I have pretty healthy hair, and it’s really long, but it grows even faster when I am consistently ingesting collagen.

5. The amino acids found in collagen are obviously a game changer, another amazing thing they do is improve thyroid health which directly improves metabolism!

6. Collagen can help regulate and balance hormones. More info here! I needed help with my hormones after baby boy was born, and collagen is one of the things I take daily and it’s truly been so helpful!

7. Collagen is high in glycine, an amino acid that aids in better sleep! I have noticed this difference as well. It is amazing!

8. Glycine also helps treat stress and anxiety, naturally. This is the number one reason I wanted to get on it. I take several things for my postpartum anxiety, and collagen is one of them. It helps so much and I notice a day-to-day difference if I don’t take it.

9. Collagen is great for joint health, and easing joint pain. I have known people who take it for arthritis, and claim it really helps them!

10. Collagen is such a pure form of protein, making it a great “protein shake” option post workout. This is what I often do and its amazing. I also know people who take it before and love that too.

Basically, collagen for everything, haha! It really is that good you guys. It helps with even more things than I mentioned, but these for my 10 reasons that I take it and use it for.

Collagen, unlike gelatin, dissolved in liquid making it super easy to add to just about everything. I add collagen in my smoothies, superfood lattes, coffee, oatmeal, and other recipes (so good in bars!). I post a lot of my recipes for these things on my Instagram, so be sure you are following along there!

It is really important to find a pure, non-gmo, grass-fed form of collagen. I trust Vital Proteins 100% for that and love their products. My favorite collagen from them to add into smoothies is collagen veggie blend to get more veggie servings, too! I also love the collagen peptides with vanilla and coconut water for lattes, its sooooooo good! The original peptides are great too because they can be added into everything with no flavor! You can also purchase these on amazon!

Do you take collagen? Share your reasons/experiences with me below!
