Aluminum, Propylene Glycol, Phthalates, Parabens.
Just a few of the common toxins found in common deodorants. In case you don’t know why you should avoid these, or need a little refresher:
Aluminum: linked to breast and prostate cancer, and increased risk of Alzheimer’s.
Propylene Glycol: damages central nervous system, liver, and heart.
Phthalates: increased risk for cell mutation, birth defects, and hormonal problems.
Parabens: organ toxicity, birth defects, and disrupts hormones causing early puberty and increased risk of hormonal cancers.
And those are just a few.
Your skin absorbs toxins within seconds, and the harm those can cause are really overwhelming. There are some great natural deodorants out there, but for me it’s something I like to make. I have tried several natural brands, some are better than others and you just have to find what works for you.
This is a really simple recipe and only takes a few minutes to whip up. Plus, it lasts a really long time! That all makes it worth it for me to make myself. I love that I have control over the ingredients, and can adjust it where and when needed. This way I get to choose my own scent (or no scent!) too, which I love!
Why these ingredients?
Baking Soda is great for odor and sweat control.
Coconut Oil is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.
Arrowroot Powder is great for absorbing moisture.
Bentonite Clay is detoxifying and moisture absorbing.
Tea Tree Oil is a strong anti-bacterial.
I hope you guys love this recipe as much as I do. It is completely natural, organic (I use and recommend using organic ingredients!) and free of any potential toxins. It really works so great, and one batch lasts a long time. I store mine in a wide mouth mason jar and use a few dabs from my finger to apply. It rubs on smooth and easy!
